What Does Medicare Cover?
There are two parts of Medicare coverage – Part A and Part B. Depending on where you are, Medicare coverage for different services, tests, and items vary. Part a typically covers a nursing facility, lab tests, surgery, inpatient hospital care, and hospice. Part B typically covers outpatient care and health care provider services. It can also cover any medical equipment needed and home health care.
There are also two main ways to get your Medicare coverage, which is through Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan, also known as Part C.
Things to Know When Considering Medicare
Are You Eligible?
You are eligible for Medicare if you are turning 65 and have paid enough Medicare taxes. You are also eligible if you have been receiving Social Security disability income for twenty-four months.
What Does This Mean to be Eligible?
If you are eligible for Medicare this means that you have a seven-month window in which to enroll in Medicare coverage. This window lasts from the three months before, the month of, and three months after your eligibility month. During this time, you can decide whether to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone prescription drug plan. Also, if you decide to stay with Original Medicare, you can decide whether or not you need a Medicare Supplement plan.
What Does Medicare Not Cover?
Medicare does not cover retirement protection in the case you need to plan retirement solutions.
